1. What is the difference between BEAM Professional (BEAM Pro) and BEAM Affiliate? How should I choose between two qualifications?
A: Both BEAM Professional and BEAM Affiliate are accredited by the Hong Kong Green Building Council Limited (HKGBC). BEAM Pro are green building professionals who play a key role in integrating the latest green building standards and practices into everyday planning, design, construction and operation of green building projects, while BEAM Affiliate are technical staffs and practitioners who support the various stages in green building projects.
BEAM Pro qualification demands a professional degree and sound experience, while BEAM Affiliate welcomes practitioners or technical staffs working in the construction or real estate industry, interior design practitioners, or recent degree graduates who are in the process of working towards a professional qualification.

2. How do I enroll in BEAM Pro or BEAM Affiliate Training and Examination?
A: Training and Examination of BEAM Pro and BEAM Affiliate are available in live events and online formats, held by BEAM Society Limited (BSL).

3. After taking the training and passing the examination of BEAM Pro or BEAM Affiliate, what are the next steps?
A: Candidates who have passed the Examination will receive emails from the HKGBC in a month after the examination, notifying the candidates of successful accreditation of their qualification. Accredited BEAM Pro and BEAM Affiliate will also be given an individual account online, which is managed by the HKGBC.
4. Do I need to pay any fee to maintain my BEAM Pro or BEAM Affiliate qualification?
A: No. There is NOT any fees associated with maintaining your qualification. BEAM Pro and BEAM Affiliate ONLY need to attain sufficient CPD hours to maintain their qualifications.

5. What are Associate Members and Institutional / Patron Members? Are they different from BEAM Pro or BEAM Affiliate?
A: Associate Member and Institutional / Patron members are two kinds of memberships offered by the HKGBC, we invite individuals who are interested to learn more about the green building movement in Hong Kong to join HKGBC. BEAM Pro and BEAM Affiliates are qualifications for individuals only. Being a BEAM Pro / BEAM Affiliate does not imply he / she is a member of HKGBC.
Associate Members are for individual, government departments or overseas organisations to join, Institutional / Patron Members are corporate memberships offered by the HKGBC. For information about the membership packages offered by HKGBC, please visit the website HERE. Staffs of Institutional/ Patron members as well as Associate Members of HKGBC can enjoy member price at CPD events held by the HKGBC. For staffs of the Institutional/ Patron members, you may contact your company representatives for HKGBC Institutional/ Patron membership number to obtain discount at our events. BEAM Pro and BEAM Affiliate can become members of HKGBC to obtain discounts in our events.

Please note that BEAM Pro and BEAM Affiliate who did not join Associate Members CANNOT entitle member price at CPD events held by the HKGBC.
6. How do I maintain the qualifications?
A: Participating in CPD activities is the way to maintain your qualification.
Please be reminded to submit your CPD records every year through the individual account in order to meet the annual CPD requirements.
7. What are the annual CPD requirements of BEAM Pro and BEAM Affiliate?
A: The following table lists out the annual CPD requirements of BEAM Pro and BEAM Affiliate:

*Excess Mandatory CPD hours can cover outstanding general CPD hours but not vice versa.
BEAM Pro and BEAM Affiliate are required to submit their CPD records every year through the online CPD record submission form.
8. What kind of activities are counted towards CPD hours?
A: The below table summarises the activities that can be counted towards Mandatory and General CPD hours:
Each training occasion can be counted as up to 3 CPD hours (inclusive of preparation and training time). For the same training topic, it can only be counted ONCE in the submission of the same year.

9. Through what channels can I obtain Mandatory CPD hours?
A: Generally, you can obtain Mandatory CPD hours by attending live events held by the HKGBC and BEAM Society Limited (BSL). Besides, you can enroll in the videos on the online training portals managed by the HKGBC and BSL. The following are the links to the portals:
10. What is the fee for Mandatory CPD events?
A: By joining Associate Members, BEAM Pro and BEAM Affiliate can enjoy member price at Mandatory CPD events held by the HKGBC, which is generally at $200 per hour unless otherwise stated. (Register Associate Members HERE.) Associate Members and staff of Institutional or Patron Members are required to enter his or her HKGBC Membership Number (“GBC/…”) in the online registration form for Mandatory CPD events held by the HKGBC.
Non-HKGBC member price is generally $300 per hour for BEAM Pro or BEAM Affiliate CPD events unless otherwise stated.
The fee for the online training portals managed by the HKGBC applies the same rule as mentioned above unless specified.
