BEAM Professionals (BEAM Pro) are green building professionals accredited by the HKGBC in various aspects of the entire green building life cycle. A key role of BEAM Pro is to integrate the latest green building standards and practices into everyday building planning, design, construction and operation.

To cope with the ever-evolving green building practices and developments, the new BEAM Pro specialty credential accredits professionals by their specialisation on one or multiple BEAM Plus assessment tool(s). There are 4 specialty qualifications, namely BEAM Pro (NB), BEAM Pro (EB), BEAM Pro (BI), and BEAM Pro (ND), that comprising of over 3,000 accredited professionals.

CPD Requirements for BEAM Pro
There are minimum annual requirements in the total CPD hours and the Mandatory CPD hours:

The HKGBC recognises professional development in different forms. The CPD policy for BEAM Pro comprises of live and online seminars, technical visits, project experience and research. BEAM Pro can achieve their annual CPD requirements in a flexible manner.

Part A - Mandatory CPD Activities

Attend Mandatory CPD events organised or co-organised by HKGBC or BSL, including education courses, training, technical talks, seminars, symposia, conferences and guided green building tours.

Act as a trainer or speaker in the activities listed in Type 1 above or other HKGBC or BSL training programmes. No limit for the total number of training occasions.

Each training occasion can be counted as up to 3 CPD hours (inclusive of preparation and training time). For the same training topic, it can only be counted ONCE in the submission of the same year.

Part B - General CPD Activities
(Report at least 2 types from the list below)

Attend HKGBC or BSL committee meetings, working group meetings, task force meetings, focus group meetings, Forums and workshops such as stakeholder engagement workshops; or represent HKGBC or BSL to attend other meetings; or act as a jury member in green building competitions organised or co-organised by HKGBC or BSL.

Conduct researches for and assist to develop contents for trainer or speaker mentioned in Type 2.

Attend training, seminars, technical visits and exhibitions related to green building. For activities with mixed themes, only those hours related to green building should be counted.

Undertake research or study, deliver speeches and write papers related to green building.

Participation in registered BEAM Plus project(s) in relation to pursuit of BEAM Plus credits.

Submission Cut-off Date
For BEAM Pro who have passed the exam and are accredited within the current calendar year, the cut-off date of CPD hours is 31 December of the following year (For example, for a BEAM Pro accredited in the 2010, the CPD hours cut-off date would be 31 December 2011).

Carry-over of Excess CPD Hours
Since 2015, the excess CPD hours attained by BEAM Pro in one year will be carried over to the following years without limit.

Make-up of Outstanding CPD Hours
BEAM Pro who cannot attain the minimum CPD hours in the 1st year can make-up the outstanding hours in the 2nd & 3rd years. However, by the 3rd year, if the total number of attained CPD hours is still less than 30 (with at least 12 Mandatory hours), his or her BEAM Pro credential will be suspended, with the status shown in the BEAM Pro Directory. Upon suspension, a 2-year grace period will be granted for suspended BEAM Pro to make-up the outstanding CPD hours.

Suspension List
The list of BEAM Pro with the credential suspended will be published in the BEAM Practitioners' Directory. Suspended BEAM Pro cannot declare himself or herself as a BEAM Pro or take up any role as a Project BEAM Pro in a BEAM Plus assessment.

Once the suspended BEAM Pro successfully make up all CPD hours due (a total of 30 hours), he or she can submit the relevant CPD records to HKGBC Secretariat and apply for the reinstatement of the BEAM Pro credential any-time during the 2-year grace period. However, BEAM Pro are reminded they are required to fulfill on-going CPD hours of the current year, to avoid possibility of the further suspension or termination of the credential in the future.

Termination of BEAM Pro Qualification
If the suspended BEAM Pro cannot make up all CPD hours due within the grace period, his or her BEAM Pro qualification will be terminated. He or She can re-enroll the BEAM Pro Specialty Training and pass the Examination to attain the qualification again.
